Mid-Year Women’s Health Check Reminder

Mid-Year Women’s Health Check Reminder and When to See Your Gynaecologist

Life gets busy, and women’s health is easy to push to the bottom of the list. Period changes get put down to stress. Pelvic pain is worked around. Bladder leakage becomes something you plan your clothes, exercise and social life around.

A mid-year check-in can be a practical reminder to stop and ask what has changed. Not every symptom means something serious, but symptoms that keep coming back, affect your day or feel different from your normal pattern deserve review.

Gynaecological care is not only about surgery. A consultation can help with menstrual changes, pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding, cervical screening follow-up, fertility planning, menopause symptoms, vulvar concerns, bladder or bowel changes and recovery after previous treatment.

Dr Kelly Hankins is a FRANZCOG-qualified Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with over 15 years’ experience in women’s health. Consultations are available in North Gosford for women across the Central Coast.

Gynaecology Concerns

Why check in

A mid-year women’s health check is not a formal test or one set appointment type. It is a useful point in the year to review symptoms you may have been ignoring or managing quietly.

This might include period changes, pain, bleeding, discomfort during sex, menopause symptoms, urinary leakage, pelvic pressure or concerns about fertility. It can also be a time to check that cervical screening or follow-up after previous results is up to date.

Early review can lead to clearer answers, earlier treatment and fewer months spent guessing what is normal.

Previous treatment follow-up

A mid-year review can also be useful if you have had previous gynaecological surgery or treatment. You may want to review:

  • Symptom management
  • Ongoing medication
  • Recovery progress
  • New pain or bleeding
  • Pelvic floor symptoms
  • Fertility planning
  • Follow-up imaging
  • Future treatment options

Follow-up can be especially helpful after treatment for endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts, abnormal bleeding, prolapse or pelvic pain.

When it is urgent

A routine appointment is not the right choice for sudden or severe symptoms. Please seek prompt medical care if you have:

  • Severe pelvic pain
  • Heavy bleeding
  • Faintness or dizziness
  • Fever
  • Sudden abdominal swelling
  • Bleeding in pregnancy
  • Bleeding after menopause
  • Severe pain with vomiting
